Volunteer Information
The convention values the time, effort, and passion contributed by volunteers. Volunteer participation helps make the event possible and ensures a smooth and welcoming experience for attendees. Volunteer roles are divided into two categories: General Convention Volunteers and Tabletop RPG Dungeon Masters, each with different responsibilities and benefits.
General Convention Volunteers
General Convention Volunteers assist across the entire convention and may be assigned to registration, room monitoring, stage assistance, line management, setup, teardown, or general support roles as needed.
A maximum of 50 General Convention Volunteers will be accepted for the 2030 convention.
Schedule and Availability
General Convention Volunteers are required for pre-convention setup and post-convention teardown.
Volunteers will be needed on Wednesday before the convention, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, to assist with setup and preparation. Volunteers will also be needed on Monday after the convention, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, to assist with breakdown and cleanup.
During the setup and teardown days only, volunteers will not receive the additional two-hour free time break, as these days are dedicated to ensuring all areas are fully prepared before the convention opens and properly cleared after it concludes.
On convention days, volunteers are expected to arrive on Thursday at 9:00 AM and may be scheduled as late as 8:00 PM, creating an 11-hour availability window. Volunteers will be assigned 7 hours of actual work per day.
Each convention day includes 4 hours off, structured as 2 hours for meal breaks and 2 hours of free time to rest or enjoy the convention as an attendee.
Volunteer Benefits
Approved General Convention Volunteers receive a complimentary full convention pass for the duration of the event and one official convention staff shirt. Staff shirts are custom-designed for the current year and are not reused from previous conventions.
Volunteers receive one free meal for each day worked. Meals are selected from a designated food truck, with arrangements coordinated prior to the convention. Any additional meals are on the volunteer’s own time and expense.
Volunteers must note any dietary restrictions in advance, and reasonable accommodations will be made whenever possible.
Volunteer Expectations
Volunteers must arrive at least one hour before convention doors open on active convention days. This time is used for staff check-in, assignment distribution, daily instructions, and coordination.
Each volunteer will be assigned a shift number, which determines work periods, meal breaks, and free time. Volunteer roles, responsibilities, and conduct expectations are detailed in the Staffing and Vendor Request information link.
Tabletop RPG Dungeon Masters (Game Runners)
We are currently looking for 12 Dungeon Masters to fill these roles for any tabletop RPG system. Whether you run fantasy, sci fi, horror, indie systems, or homebrew campaigns, we welcome all systems in the RPG area.
Dungeon Masters are considered a specialized volunteer role and follow a separate reward structure from General Convention Volunteers. Dungeon Masters are dedicated to the tabletop gaming area and are not rotated through general convention duties.
Important Admission Notice
Dungeon Masters are required to purchase admission initially. Event rewards are earned through gameplay participation and are distributed after eligibility requirements are met.
Dungeon Master Reward Eligibility
Dungeon Masters who run a minimum of two tabletop RPG sessions, with each session lasting approximately three hours, for a total of six hours of gameplay during the convention weekend will qualify for event rewards.
Eligible Dungeon Masters will receive:
• An official Dungeon Master shirt
• Two printed tabletop maps from the RPG section
• A 25 dollar Amazon gift card
Rewards are distributed at the end of the event once eligibility requirements are met.
Dungeon Master Shirt Information
Dungeon Master shirts are available in limited quantities and are offered in unisex sizes Medium, Large, Extra Large, 2XL, and 3XL. Shirt size availability is not guaranteed and will be distributed while supplies last.
Dungeon Master Slot Availability
Only 12 Dungeon Master slots are available. Sign ups are handled on site, and interested Game Masters are strongly encouraged to reserve their spot as soon as they arrive at the convention.
If you are interested in running games at D20 Con, plan to secure your slot early.
Additional Information
All volunteer participation is subject to availability and operational needs. Additional details regarding volunteer roles, responsibilities, scheduling, and participation requirements can be found through the Staffing and Vendor Request information link.
The convention deeply appreciates everyone who contributes their time and effort. Volunteer support is essential to creating a successful and memorable event for the entire community.
